Make cutout shapes and areas in your graphics

Making Cutout Areas:

	1. This is one of my wallpapers. A lot of people asked me how to make the cutout edges that I used. So here it is. There are many ways to do this but this is a pretty quick and easy way to do it.
	2. First use your elliptical marquee tool. Hold down your shift key while using it to create a perfect circle. Once you have your circle fill it with a color you want to be your main image color.

	3. Next use your airbrush to give your sphere some dimension. I used for the large white highlight; first the 100 airbrush, next the 45 and finally a smaller for the final highlight. Then I used the 65 for the top right white highlight. For the black I used a combo of the 65 and 45 for the bottom shading.
	4. Create a new layer and grab your elliptical tool once again. Name the layer "black". Make a shape similar to the one that I did. Make sure that you are in a new layer and not the original.
	5. Fill the selection with Black. Deselect the layer and guassian blur it by 0.7. Duplicate the layer and call it white ( I know it's still black but that is about to change.) Now move the white layer under the black layer and invert the color "CTRL +I". Use your keyboard arrow keys and move the white selection one click down and on click to the right. You should have something that looks like my picture. Before you go on go back to the top "black" layer and hit "CTRL+E" to merge the black and white layer together. The "black layer should have disappeared and left you with only the "white" layer.
	6. Now go back to your sphere layer and select it. "CTRL+CLICK" You should see the selection active now. Now hit "CTRL+SHIFT+I" to invert the selection. "Leave the selection active, do not deselect". With the selection active click back onto the white layer. Now grab your eraser and erase the outer part of the white layer, where I have placed the red mark. This will make it a perfect fit. Go ahead and deselect so you can take a peek at what you have got so far CTRL+D.
	7. Ok your almost there. Now just duplicate the white layer as many times as you want. It will depend on how many cutouts you want. I duplicated it 2 times for this example. Once you have duplicated it use your rotate tool and move tool to position it so it lines up with the circle shape of the sphere. If you need a guide CTRL+CLICK back on your sphere layer so you can see where you are placing the cutouts.
	8. If you are happy with the outcome you can stop here or continue for more shading options. OK, Here is what I am going to do. In case you want to add the same cutouts to the other side merge all of the cutout layers into one layer. So all you should have is the sphere and the cutouts. Select your cutouts layer and duplicate that. Now go to edit/transform/flip horizontal. Hold down your shift key and using the arrow tool move the duplicate cutouts to the right side. The reason to hold down the shift key is so when you move it the image will stay perfectly aligned with the left side.
	9. Now just CTRL+CLICK on the left cutout side and using your airbrush give the cutouts some highlights and shadows. Then repeat with the right side. Remember where you light is coming from when airbrushing your highlights and shadows. Now just add your own effects from here.
